Job summary
The Estates Department is looking to recruit an organised and motivated Stores Person to support the effective delivery of maintenance services across Darlington Memorial Hospital. The postholder will be responsible for managing stock and non-stock items, maintaining accurate inventory records, receiving and checking deliveries, and ensuring materials are available to support engineering and maintenance teams. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong organisational skills, a customer-focused approach and an interest in supporting essential services within a busy healthcare environment.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day operation of the Estates stores, maintaining stock levels, processing orders through the Cardea system, receiving and checking deliveries, and ensuring materials are stored safely and securely. They will maintain documentation including delivery notes, service reports and COSHH records, support calibration and certification processes, undertake meter readings across the site and assist the wider Estates team as required. The role involves regular communication with maintenance staff, contractors and customers to ensure an efficient and responsive service is delivered..

Job description
Job responsibilities
The Stores Person is responsible for the overall control, management and safeguarding of Estates stock and purchased goods. Key responsibilities include:
Maintaining accurate stock control records and ensuring appropriate stock levels are available to support Estates operations.
Requisitioning stock and non-stock items using the Cardea system.
Receiving, checking and receipting deliveries, ensuring goods are free from damage and match purchase orders.
Safely storing goods and maintaining appropriate controls for out-of-hours access.
Maintaining filing systems for delivery notes, maintenance reports and other documentation.
Monitoring and controlling calibration certification and associated data records.
Supporting filter delivery processes and carrying out meter readings across the hospital site.
Maintaining and updating the COSHH register.
Working with Estates engineers, craftspersons, contractors and service users to support effective service delivery.
Supporting the wider Estates team as required and undertaking training where necessary.

- Ability to work in adverse environments including plant rooms, ducts, restricted spaces and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to organise workload and work within sensitive healthcare environments. Team player with a customer-focused approach.
