Estates Maintenance Services
About Our Service
The Estates Maintenance Team provides the engineering, maintenance, and infrastructure services that keep the Trust’s hospitals and healthcare facilities operating safely and effectively, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Working across acute, community, and specialist healthcare sites, our highly skilled teams maintain the buildings, engineering systems, and critical infrastructure that support patient care. From responding to emergency breakdowns and carrying out statutory inspections to delivering major backlog maintenance schemes, we play a key role in ensuring a safe, compliant, and resilient healthcare environment for patients, visitors, and colleagues.
Patient safety, operational excellence, and continual improvement are at the heart of everything we do.

Our Services
Planned Preventative Maintenance
Our engineering teams deliver comprehensive planned maintenance programmes to ensure that critical assets and infrastructure remain safe, reliable, and fully operational. This includes:

Electrical Systems

Medical Gas Infrastructure

Heating and Boiler Plant

Building Management Systems

Ventilation and Air Conditioning Systems

Lifts and Lifting Equipment

Water Services

Fire Safety Systems
Regular maintenance helps reduce the risk of failure, improve performance, and extend the life of estate assets.
Reactive Maintenance
Healthcare never stops …. and neither do we.
Our maintenance teams provide a responsive service to address faults, breakdowns, and urgent repairs across the Trust. Whether responding to a power failure, water leak, equipment fault, or infrastructure issue, our engineers work around the clock to minimise disruption to patient services.
Statutory Compliance
Healthcare estates are among the most highly regulated environments in the country.
Our team ensure that all engineering systems and estate-related activities meet legislative requirements and NHS standards. We manage programmes relating to:

Fire Safety

Water Safety

Electrical Safety

Pressure Systems

Ventilation Compliance

Medical Gas Systems

Lifting Equipment Inspections

Building Safety Assurance
This work provides assurance that Trust facilities remain safe for patients, staff, and visitors.
Backlog Maintenance and Infrastructure Investment
The Estates Maintenance Team leads the delivery of a wide-ranging programme of backlog maintenance schemes designed to address ageing infrastructure, reduce operational risk, and improve the safety, reliability, and resilience of the Trust’s estate.
By investing in the replacement and refurbishment of critical assets, we help ensure that healthcare services continue to operate safely and effectively whilst providing value for money and supporting the long-term sustainability of our facilities.
Examples of Recent Backlog Schemes
Over recent years, the Trust has successfully delivered a range of backlog maintenance and infrastructure improvement projects, including:
Delivering Value Through Investment
Every backlog scheme is carefully prioritised based on risk, compliance requirements, patient safety, operational impact, and future service needs. Through effective planning and investment, we are reducing the maintenance backlog, improving estate condition, and creating healthcare environments that are fit for the future.
Emergency Preparedness and Resilience
Maintaining resilient infrastructure is essential in a healthcare setting.
Our teams support business continuity planning and provide rapid response capability during incidents to ensure that critical systems remain operational and patient services continue safely.
Supporting Patient Care
While much of our work takes place behind the scenes, every maintenance activity contributes directly to the delivery of safe, effective patient care.
From maintaining life-critical engineering systems to investing in major backlog replacement schemes, our Estates Maintenance Team remains committed to providing safe, compliant, sustainable, and resilient healthcare environments across the Trust.
